What is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)?
PGT is an umbrella term for genetic tests performed on embryos during an IVF cycle. A few cells are biopsied from a day-5/6 blastocyst and sent for analysis. The main types are:
PGT-A (Aneuploidy Screening): Checks for missing or extra chromosomes (e.g., Down syndrome).
PGT-M (Monogenic/Specific Disorders): Screens for a specific inherited genetic condition known to run in the family (e.g., Thalassemia, cystic fibrosis).

Q: Is PGT a substitute for prenatal testing? A: No. We still recommend standard prenatal screening (like NIPT) and diagnostic tests (like amniocentesis) during pregnancy to confirm the PGT results.
