Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting (MACS)

What is Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting (MACS)?

MACS is a laboratory technique that uses magnetic nanoparticles to separate and remove apoptotic (dying) sperm from a semen sample. These dying sperm have externalized a phospholipid called phosphatidylserine (PS), which the magnetic beads bind to, allowing them to be removed from the healthy, non-apoptotic sperm population.Endometrial Rejuvenation involves using Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, derived from your own blood, to promote growth and regeneration of the endometrium. The growth factors in PRP are injected into the uterine cavity to stimulate cellular repair and improve thickness and blood flow

Our MACS Procedure Includes:

Q: How is MACS different from standard sperm wash?                                                                                                                                                                                             A:  Standard sperm wash selects sperm based on motility and density. MACS selects based on a biomarker of cellular health (apoptosis), providing a different and complementary type of selection.

Q: Can MACS be used for IUI?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          A: No. The number of sperm recovered after MACS is optimized for use in ICSI, where a single sperm is selected for injection. It is not suitable for IUI, which requires millions of motile sperm.

Q:  Who should consider MACS?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      A:  It is recommended for men with high DNA fragmentation index (DFI), unexplained poor embryo quality, recurrent implantation failure, or recurrent miscarriage.

Q: What are my next steps?
A:  Your next step is to schedule a consultation to discuss male fertility testing, including a DFI test, to see if MACS could improve your IVF outcomes. Call us at 083103 09167 or schedule online at www.drjyotibandi.in

  • Superior Sperm Selection: MACS adds an additional layer of selection beyond standard methods, targeting sperm health at a cellular level
  • Improved Embryo Quality: By using sperm with lower DNA fragmentation, studies suggest MACS can lead to better embryo development and higher-quality blastocysts.
  • Reduced Miscarriage Risk: Lower sperm DNA damage is associated with a decreased risk of early pregnancy loss.
  • Ideal for Specific Cases: Particularly beneficial for men with high DNA fragmentation, varicoceles, or previous poor fertilization/embryo development.
